Hair and scalp

<What is the reason for greasy hair?>

Greasy hair is mainly due to an increase in sebum secretion by the sebaceous gland on the scalp. Known as hyperseborrhoea, this phenomenon is not the only culprit responsible for greasy hair. This can also be the result, on the one hand, of qualitative changes in the sebum which becomes more fluid and thus migrates more quickly and more easily to the hair shaft and, on the other hand, the formation of calcium salts resulting from the contact of the sebum with the calcium present in tap water when the hair is washed. The effect of these salts is to weigh down the hair and give it a shiny appearance.

It should be noted that over-frequent washing and the use of too detergent shampoos may cause reactional hyperseborrhoea. In fact, in the absence of sebum following an aggressive wash, the sebaceous gland may "run away with itself" and start over-secreting, which makes the hair and scalp even greasier.
