Sensitive skin
<What phenomenon is responsible for the simultaneous presence of redness, scaly skin and slight itching?>
Situated on the areas of the face with the most sebaceous glands, the redness, scaly skin and slight itching are caused by the proliferation of a micro-organism of the Malassezia family. Usually present on the surface of the skin of every individual, Malassezia is normally well tolerated. However, in certain predisposed subjects, it develops to an excessive degree and triggers an abnormal reaction: the cells are renewed too quickly and form clumps of dry scales on the surface of the skin.
Fatigue, stress and pollution are all factors that can contribute to or increase the proliferation of Malassezia and the subsequent appearance of redness, scaly skin and slight itching.
