Sun care
<Do self-tanners provide any protection against the sun’s dangers?>
Self-tanners give the skin a golden tan but they do not give any protection against the sun’s harmful effects. The skin colour obtained by applying a self-tanner and the tan resulting from exposure to the sun stem from two mechanisms that have nothing in common. A self-tanner does not stimulate the production of protective pigmentation in the skin (melanin), it produces an artificial skin colouring. After applying a self-tanner, you therefore need to wash your hands and nails thoroughly to prevent any unsightly staining of these areas.
It is absolutely essential for any person using a self-tanner to apply a photoprotective product when exposing his/her skin to the sun.
